Police suspect no foul play in the death of a Free State municipal manager whose body was found near Ladybrand earlier this week, police said on Wednesday.
Colonel Thandi Mbambo said a post mortem report on the death of Naledi municipal manager Thami Tukani indicated that strangulation was the cause of death. Police found Tukani’s body with a wire around the neck.
Mbambo said an empty box of poison and a till slip for the purchase of the poison and the wire were found next to his body on Monday.
“Investigating officer Captain Francois Laux followed all the leads and with the evidence found at the scene led to the findings that no foul play was suspected.”
Mbambo said the Tukani family had been informed of the findings.
Police said the investigation took police to a shop in Ladybrand where the items found at the body were bought.
The video camera in the shop showed Tukani buying the goods. He was wearing the clothes in which he was later found dead.
His vehicle was found in the area where his body was found. It had not been tampered with and his cellphone and cash were found in the car. The car keys were found in Tukani’s possession. - Sapa
