Bloemfontein - The trial of one of the men accused of taking part in a rightwing coup plot will resume in the Bloemfontein High Court next year.
Judge Mahube Molemela granted a separation of trial after one of the two accused, Mark Trollip, 48, agreed to a plea bargain.
Trollip and Johan Hendrik Prinsloo, 49, appeared in court on Wednesday on charges of high treason and conspiracy to commit terrorist acts.
They were allegedly involved in plans to bomb the African National Congress's national conference in Mangaung last December.
According to the charge sheet, the two planned to acquire weaponry such as AK-47, R1 and R4 rifles to execute the coup.
Trollip agreed to the plea bargain, under which he pleaded guilty to the conspiracy charge and was sentenced to eight years in prison. The State withdrew the charge of high treason.
Prinsloo, represented by Johann Nel, did not agree to the plea bargain and his trial was set down for January 27 to February 21.
