A group of men robbed a tuck shop in Botshabelo, poured paraffin on the two owners and set them alight on Wednesday, Free State police said.

Constable Thabo Litabe said the two men, who were foreign nationals aged 29 and 49, were sleeping in the tuck shop when the men came in through the roof.

The group took an undisclosed amount of money and groceries before burning the two men and fled through the roof.

One of the men was able to contact a friend who called the police, Litabe said. Both were taken to Pelonomi Hospital in Bloemfontein.

Police were still searching for the men. It was not clear how many of them robbed the tuck shop.

A case of robbery and attempted murder was opened. -
