A Free State woman recognised her gardener as the man who had robbed her from his shadow, police said on Thursday.

Captain Phumelelo Dhlamini said the Clocolan woman woke to see “a shadow” which looked like that of her gardener, in her bedroom at 3am on Wednesday.

She told the police that although the thief’s face was covered with a balaclava, she was sure that the silhouette was that of her gardener.

The man threatened her with an iron rod, stole cash and a cellphone, and ran away.

Investigations led police to the house of the mosotho man, 49, who worked as a gardener at the woman’s house.

Dhlamini said police found the gardener still wearing clothes fitting the description given by the woman. They also found in his possession property stolen from her.

Police said the man was arrested on charges of house robbery. – Sapa
