Two Mangaung traffic cops have been arrested for taking a bribe, Free State police said on Wednesday.

Captain Chaka Marope said the men, aged 29 and 42, stopped the driver of a vehicle in Faure Avenue, in Willows, on Tuesday afternoon.

They apparently inspected the vehicle and told the driver it was unroadworthy.

He was told to pay them R300 to prevent the vehicle from being impounded.

Marope said the driver, who did not want to be identified, contacted the police and an entrapment opportunity was set for later on Tuesday.

The two officials were arrested immediately after the driver had paid them with marked banknotes.

The men would appear in the Bloemfontein Magistrate’s Court on Thursday on charges of corruption. – Sapa
