Phuthaditjhaba, Free State - Two people were injured in a factory fire in Phuthaditjhaba on Wednesday afternoon, Free State police said.

The bed factory in the town's industrial area caught fire around 3pm, Sergeant Mmako Mophiring said.

“Emergency services are battling to control the fire due to windy conditions and the size of the building,” Mophiring said.

“No one can go near the building. There are very big flames and from my observation I would say it is out of control.”

Emergency services were trying to stop the flames from spreading to nearby buildings.

The two people were taken to a local hospital. The cause of the fire was unknown. - Sapa
