Bloemfontein - Two youths accused of raping two elderly women during a house robbery appeared in the Kestell Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.

The boys, aged 16 and 17, were released into the custody of their guardians after the case was postponed to July 19.

Bail was refused for two men, aged 21 and 22, earlier in the same matter. They are still in police custody.

A court official said a trial date in the Free State Circuit Court would be decided at the next court appearance.

The two sisters, aged 73 and 69, were raped in their home at the end of April.

Their attackers broke into their home at night and demanded money and weapons.

When the women told the men they had none, the robbers allegedly raped them.

The women were admitted to hospital. - Sapa
