Two women were killed and four others were injured in a head-on collision on Erfdeel Road outside Welkom in the Free State, paramedics said on Sunday.
Netcare 911 spokesman Jeffrey Wicks said it seemed one car veered from its lane and drove into oncoming traffic just before 7pm on Saturday.
When paramedics arrived they found two women had sustained critical injuries and had already died as a result.
One man was in a critical condition and trapped in one of the cars.
He was freed and stabilised and transported to hospital in Welkom with three others, Wicks said. - Sapa
