Bloemfontein - Robbers in Bloemfontein left a women for dead after stabbing her with a screwdriver or knife near the popular Loch Logan Waterfront area, the Volksblad reported on Monday.

Lauré Amicke van Rensburg, 21, walked from the Waterfront to the nearby Protea Hotel Willow Lake when robbers attacked her near the zoo on Saturday night.

Van Rensburg said she could not understand why the attackers hurt her after she gave them what they wanted; her money, handbag, and cellphone.

She was being treated at the Pelonomi Hospital after one of her lungs was damaged in the stabbing.

Passers-by helped Van Rensburg when she tried to run away from the robbers who had stabbed her from behind.

She was taken to a friend at the hotel. Her father found her there in a pool of blood and took her to hospital.

Loch Logan Waterfront spokeswoman Meryl Henning told the newspaper the attack on a young woman was a concern. - Sapa
