Try a summer adventure at De Hoop

Cape Town - This summer, why not head off to De Hoop Nature Reserve, a comfortable three hour drive from Cape Town?

The reserve will be offering children's activities (children’s rates apply to 12 years and under), which include:

 

Daytime activities

* Rock and Roll (1 ½ - 2 hours) - a fun and educational guided activity exploration of creepy crawlies that live under rocks - R50 per child.

* Track Hunting (1 ½ - 2 hours) - a new guided activity that has the children searching for animal tracks, which are captured in plaster-of-paris as a memento - R65 per child. Both these activities are facilitated by an experienced field guide.

* The fun and educational 1 hour long treasure hunt, Nature Quest, has the kids exploring the De Hoop Opstal and Vlei areas They have to solve riddles to find the clues that lead them to a treasure - R50 per child.

* The Marine Walk (scheduled at low tide) - an exploration of the rocky shores and pools of De Hoop Marine Reserve. De Hoop guide will share fun facts on things found on the beach where they can draw items they have collected and seen. Example shells, starfish, whales and other interestine marine life. The cost is R150 per adult and R50 per child, additional bookings for breakfast (or lunch) picnic basket for the family for R250.

 

Evening activities

* Star stories and smores under the night sky: listen to myths and legends about the starry constellations and African animal stories, while roasting marshmallows around the fire (R50 per child).

* For the intrepid explorers, the Night Adventurer, an interactive night walk with a De Hoop guide, to look for scorpions and other creatures of the night armed only with a UV light – R50 per child and R80 per adult.

* The Evening Boat Cruise canapés, soft drinks and house wine. Both cruises cost R295 (Adults) and R145 (children).

 

Indoor activities

* Mini Chefs - kids get to roll out the dough and create their own pizza with delicious toppings and bake special cupcakes with icing and toppings (R80 per child)

* Creative Nature – kids can make and decorate clay model of whales and other animals found at De Hoop Nature & Marine Reserve, while the younger kids can colour in their own starfish or ostrich with their activity book – R80 per child.

* Vlei Boat Cruises: experience the spectacular sightings of birds and the peacefulness of the vlei. The Breakfast Boat Cruise includes muffins, croissants, cheeses, juice tea and coffee.
