Cape Town - Property is booming for Camps Bay with a 90-room hotel which will be named “Morea House” and is part of the Marriott Autograph Hotel Collection whose completion date is expected in 2025.
Property mogul, content producer, Ash Muller also took to her much-followed Twitter page where she shared a little insight and photographs of the building site.
“It is a Marriott Autograph Collection Hotel,” Muller wrote via her Twitter account.
“New completion date: early 2025. Latest pictures of this hotel under construction.
“They are going to name it: Morea House’s Boutique Hotel Camps Bay- South Africa.
“It is a Marriott Autograph Collection Hotel.
“New completion date: early 2025.”
The City of Cape Town and City’s Deputy Mayor and Mayoral Committee Member for Spatial Planning and Environment, Eddie Andrews confirmed approval for the site though not much details were given about the development.
“The development application was approved on 6 August 2021. The application was assessed against the requirements of the Municipal Planning By-Law and relevant City policies,” he stated.
Atlantic Seaboard resident, Peter Flentov said the hotel would bring much tourism which was positive but also congestion.
“It’s inevitable that development in Cape Town, especially on the Atlantic Seaboard, will increase to keep pace with the City’s growing popularity as one of the top destinations in the world,” he said.
“It’s sad that what has made Camps Bay such a magical part of Cape Town to date, will be its downfall. There will be more and more new developments along Camps Bay’s beachfront, and that part of Camps Bay will become increasingly less residential and more geared towards visitors.“
Birgit Deibele Senior Director, Communications for the Marrioutt Hotel Group for Sub-Saharan Africa said they can confirm they have signed a franchise agreement for a project in Camps Bay.
The Marriott Hotel via Association For the Promotion of Tourism to Africa and Southern Africa’s Travel News by TNW shared press statements from The Marriott Hotel Group about their plans in Southern Africa.
The group said they planned to open 13 new properties in 2025.
Dorcas Dlamini Mbele, Marriott Area Director: Sales and Distribution for Sub- Saharan Africa, said they were expected to open 13 new properties across Sub-Saharan African which included the Morea House hotel, which is part of its Autograph Collection in Camps Bay.
The property they explained would feature 90 rooms, and a dining experience and they were setting their sites further afield to the Lord Charles Hotel in Somerset West which is also set to reopen under the Tribute Portfolio banner.
She said the two properties were expected to open their doors by the second quarter of 2025.
